Four Areas of the Kitchen That Are Often Overlooked in House Cleaning

Four Areas of the Kitchen That Are Often Overlooked in House Cleaning

When thinking about cleaning your kitchen, overall it’s pretty simple. Scrub the sink and counter tops, do a little dusting, clean the stove top, vacuum and mop the floors, and you are done. Right? For the most part, you’d be happy if you were to do those areas, but there are four areas within a kitchen that are often overlooked. If overlooked long enough, you’ll have quite the buildup of dust, dirt, and grime.

Refrigerator Vent

Most often, people will remember to get the front of their refrigerator, around the handles and all of the “high traffic” areas of the refrigerator. However, one of the areas that collects the most dirt and grime is the vent on the front of your refrigerator. Typically located on the bottom of your refrigerator on the front, it is a magnet for spills, kitchen grease, and dust. Just remember to go all the way from the top to the bottom when cleaning and you’ll be sure to remember your vent.

Top of the Refrigerator

I know I just mentioned the bottom of the refrigerator, but how many times do we forget to clean the top? If your house is like mine, the top of the refrigerator becomes a place to collect and store things. In my house, that’s where the kids’ lunch boxes are stored. Just remember, top to bottom and you’ll be on your way to remembering to clean the top in no time.

Stove Hood

What happens here is that when you get to the cleaning of your stove, most people are so focused with the stove top itself that they forget to clean the hood. It’s pretty easy thing to do considering when you go to clean the stove, you’ll naturally focus on all the cooked on food that is on your stove top.

With most stove tops being smooth tops or glass tops now and requiring special attention, it only makes it harder to remember the hood as well. My mindset is on making sure the smooth stove top surface looks nice and shiny. Then a few weeks go by and the hood of my stove is a glaring mess. Grease, dirt, and grime just build and build and now you’ve got an even tougher job on your hands. I know I am repeating myself, but start at the top and remember the routine as you work your way around a room.

Microwave

Have you ever opened your microwave and thought maybe something was living in there? My family is on the go and we use our microwave a lot. When heating things up—from spaghetti sauce to left overs and anything in between—if we don’t keep up on cleaning it, It can get quite scary.

We use it so much – how do we forget to clean it?

Usually it’s because we are trying to get our cleaning done as fast as we can, because we don’t have any time. Also, microwaves are sometimes tucked away where we forget them as part of our normal cleaning routine. Don’t do it! Remember to clean them or you might be surprised at what is inside!

I hope this article helps jog your memory the next time you are doing house cleaning. If you are looking for an easier way to clean and still get all of these details done, check out a blog I wrote about a house cleaning routine that will help you clean your house in half the time!
